Reflections on Christmas Past!
This time of year always brings me back to the early 60's. Although I was Jewish by birth, my Dad always believed that Santa was for every child throughout the world and although we didn't have a tree in our home, he made sure he hired someone each year to decorate the four huge pine trees in our front yard with lots of blinking colorful lights and each Christmas Eve, I would go to bed early... As we are approaching yet another year coming to an end, I finally realized that life is like a series of roads that branch out into smaller paths. Summer of 1966, My First Job As A Mother's Helper!
In the summer of 1966, at the ripe old age of fourteen, I had my first full time job! I lived in an apartment complex in Flushing Queens, and a young couple in my building was looking for a Mother's Helper for the summer to care for their two young boys. When I was Young, Life Seemed So Uncomplicated!
When I was young, life was so much simpler, no high tech devices that would literally occupy my entire being and I was not glued to a computer, or hand held game device, no cable TV with so many channels to choose from that it was hard to decide what channel to watch! We had to rely on our own imaginations to have fun and our TV sets had only 13 channels and some of us only had a nine inch black and white... (posted by Iris 84 days 2 hours ago.)
