Reality TV Are our lives so empty, we need to watch them?

I really don't understand the facination with Reality TV.
What ever happened to living your own life to the fullest!
What kind of example are we setting for our children if they feel that the only thrill and excitement they can get out of life is to watch it on TV?
In my opinion most of the shows are so unrealistic that they should pay me to even sit there and waste my time watching them. I don't have to channel surf to hear people whinning and complaining and fighting among themselves. In my opinion not one of these shows has a lesson to be learned except maybe for some," Hey, my life is not so bad after all"!!
What ever happened to the days when quality TV was a given. There were lessons to be learned and life experiences from shows that actually meant something. It seems that now there is very little positive influence from watching half the shows that are considered Reality TV.
Have we become a society of non -thinking, non-feeling human beings who take pleasure in watching others suffer. The other question is, what is wrong with the people who agree to put themselves through all sorts of situations just for the sake of a minute of fame, or what limit do you set for trying to win money at all cost. Are we all that desperate for attention?
I would love to see some quality shows without all the drama and yes, life is tough enough, Humor is a good thing and we need more of it, but Reality TV is not my idea of entertainment in any form or shape.
Maybe one day, society will be bored with this new trend and demand something of substance to watch.
I am not a fan of Reality TV and never will be. My Life is enriched with wonderful family and friends and my adventures are my own, not something made up to get ratings from the battling networks.
Think about it! Get off the couch and get a life of your own to enjoy!!!

This is a Rebuttal to Mr. Paul Jones, Luckily we live in a country that takes pride in Freedom of Speech. You had your say, and I had mine.
Thanks for this. It helped us for our exam.
Dear Juan, I am glad that my article was helpful. Good luck on your exam. Most Sincerely, Iris S. Taub
