How To Decide Between Good Nutrition and Price When Buying Pet Food

We have four pets. Three dogs and a cat and in today's economy, I don't want to have to sacrifice good nutrition because of price. You might think the more you spend on food the better the quality but buyer beware! Always read the label before you purchase the food. If the first ingredient is by products and grains, (by products are the beaks and other parts that are usually thrown away and not used for human consumpton,) why would you want your pet to eat them so, don't by it! It is a proven fact that cats and dogs need protein and that some pets are allergic so if you can buy a food that is grain free, you might see a difference in your pet's health. Some pets tolerate lamb over chicken as well. I also give my dogs a capsule of Fish oil which I squeeze into their food and it keeps their coats shiny and helps our "senior" dog to be very active since the Omega's are great for his joints as well as his eyes and heart. I also buy beef liver and microwave it until it cooks through and cut it into little squares and sprinkle garlic powder on it and give it to them as a healthy and tasty treat. The liver is very inexpensive and can be purchased frozen or fresh. Then store the rest in the fridge. When my puppy won't eat her food, I sprinkle some garlic powder on her food and she eats it. Garlic is healthy and is also a natural flea and tick repellent. Don't be afraid to offer your pets an apple, or even a carrot. Fruits and veggies have the same benefits on pets that they have on us, so in moderation it is good for them.
Unfortunately, they don't make a signature product for wet food.
So... if you are concerned with good nutrition and want to get it for a reasonable price, give these products a try.
