My Tribute to Mom

Celebrating Mother's Day is a day that we should recognize special women in our lives who have made a difference. The expression that you must give birth to celebrate Mother's Day is something I could never understand. I truly believe that any woman could conceive and give birth and that does not necessarily mean that she is capable of loving and caring for that child. My own personal experience with my birth mother was strained and until her death was a battle between the two of us, me always trying to please her and her constant criticism that still haunts me to this day. On the other hand, there is my beautiful Mother-in-law who welcomed me into the family with open arms, and she became my Mom and taught me how to love unconditionally and to open my heart to those who needed my love and support. To play it forward, sort of speak is the lesson she instilled in me and that is why losing her almost three years ago due to complications of a massive stroke still leaves me and my family heart-broken. Her spirit and zest for life was contagious and she touched everyone she met and always had a kind word to say and could always reach out and find the best even in someone who other's might have decided to ignore. I try my best to honor her memory by being supportive and loving to my family and friends and try my best to remember how much her love has made an impact on everyone who had the privilege of calling her family or a good friend.

Oh how I wish we could all be together on this special day but we will still honor her by going to the cemetery and saying a prayer and our granddaugher will bring a balloon and release it so that Mamie could catch it and know how much she is loved!

Remember life has a funny way of catching up to you so don't waste time putting off what you can do today. Tell that special someone how much you love them and appreciate them and don't let it be just one special day to get your message across!

Happy Mother's Day to all special women who make a difference in your life!
