Hanukkah at our House

My family is blessed with celebrating not only Hanukkah but Christmas as well.

In order to give our four grandchildren a taste of their Jewish roots, I make a traditional Hanukkah dinner one night during Hanukkah which consists of homemade matzo ball soup, brisket and of course the potato pancakes!
The older children now read the story of Hanukkah to their younger siblings and this year our seven year old granddaughter was thrilled to light the solid brass menorah with the wax candles that I brought to their home. I say the prayer in Hebrew and she repeats it in English. Now if I can only get her three year old brother to understand that you don't blow out the candles on a menorah like you do on a birthday cake! LOL
I also give each grandchild some chocolate gelt(money) and present each of them with a large wooden dreidel( top) they they love to play with.
Even though we exchange presents with them on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, they still seem to enjoy our little tradition and their little gifts as well.
