Encouraging Young Minds To Express Themselves and Use Their Imaginations!

I have always been able to express my feelings and thoughts on paper and our family has been blessed with artistic abilities, whether it is drawing, creating ideas and expressing those thoughts either in writing or verbally and I feel that it is never to early to encourage young children to express themselves and use their imaginations!

We don't give children enough credit for having the ability to do this and too many of us don't take the time to really sit down with our children and even our grandchildren and talk to them about how they view the world and what they feel.

I have started a new tradition in our family that allows the youngest members of our family to try their luck in using their imaginations.

My husband just recently had a birthday and I wanted to present a challenge to our seven year old granddaughter and not only did she deliver but now my husband has a personalized gift that he can cherish for years to come.

I would love to share this story with all of you.  Now remember we are talking about a seven year old here so please don't be too critical of the content, grammar or repeated usage of some of the words she used to tell her story!

Before I actually post it, I have to share with all of you that my husband is an animal lover and we always tease him that he prefers the company of our four dogs and cats to most people and that if he could have one wish, he would probably want to become a dog so......our granddaughter wrote this story!

One day, Pa was at the beach.  When he got to the beach, he found a magic lamp.  When he rubbed the lamp a genie came out and she said I will give you one wish, so Pa wished to be a dog like Cody(Cody is one of our Boston Terriers), and then the genie turned Pa into a dog.  The first thing Pa did was go in the water but before Pa went into the water the genie said you will only be a dog for five hours. Pa said OK and went swimming, then Pa found a funnel cake on the floor so he ate it up. then Pa found a Frisbee and started to play with it. Then Pa got hungry and he remembered that the  genie said he only has five hours and he only has one left so then Pa stand next to a ice cream truck, then Pa found a ball so he played with it. then Pa turned back into a human. then Pa said that it was the best day ever!

The End!

I was so proud of her for writing the story and I told her that it was the best present that Pa could have ever received!

I hope you all enjoyed it too!

Our granddaughter has a younger brother who is only three but I hope he will be as creative as she is when he is her age.
