In the Mirror I see Me!

When I look in the mirror, the reflection that stares back at me is an image of a person who always tries to be kind, honest, compassionate and most importantly always makes a decision from the heart!

We all have had our share of challenges along the way and the longer we live, the more we experience.

I have faced many challenges that for some would have changed their view of the world, but I take things in stride and go with the flow sort of speak.  Even with the daily reminder of chronic pain and discomfort from my health issues, I realize that I have two ways of approaching this situation, complain and give up, or take the approach that I will not let my physical limitations define me and stop me from living a full life!

Some of us rely on prescription medications to get us through the rough spots and some of us can't.  I couldn't tolerate most medications prescribed for my fibromyalgia so I was determined to get as much information about this condition that was available and have tried numerous approaches to what seems to work for me.

Exercise is the key ingredient!  I make sure that I go to the fitness center every other day and use the elliptical for forty five minutes and end that warm up session with the weight equipment for an additional thirty minutes.  It has helped build muscles and strengthened my bones and I also make sure that I eat healthy and stay as fresh as I can with what I put into my body.  I am not saying I don't stray and have that occasional yogurt with dark chocolate and some coconut shavings on the yogurt, but for the most part, fresh fruit, vegetables and whole grains are a part of my daily routine.

I have even stopped using Crystal light and make my own Green Tea and ice it.  My husband likes it straight up sort of speak with of course some truvia added to make it sweet and I like to kick it up a notch and add a flavored natural fruit tea bag.

When they say you are what you eat, I begin to realize that there is some truth to this since I noticed that I am in better physical shape than I was in my 30's and even 40's when I felt that eating anything was OK.

Whether or not you have health issues, it is important especially as we age, to eat a healthy diet and now more and more people are beginning to realize that if they eat a balanced diet, exercise and find ways to eliminate stress, they are living longer and more importantly healthier lives.

Obviously it makes sense to start off right by encouraging even young children to eat healthy with of course some sweets as a treat and not as a daily staple to their diet.

By taking these simple steps, you are hopefully avoiding many of the chronic diseases and conditions that can be either environmentally or chemically triggered off and hopefully can beat the odds of a hereditary condition that can alter your life or even end it!

Going back to the basics of eating well, exercising and finding ways to control the stress in your life can prolong your life, and hopefully avoid relying on prescription medication to control conditions that might have been prevented from just taking simple steps of staying healthy both physically and emotionally.
